COST BREAKDOWN
The real cost of a $49 eval
PropFirm Deck · · 2 min
The cheapest 50K evaluation we track is $49/month (Topstep's Standard
Combine). The most expensive way to hold a 50K account is $747 once
(Elite's Direct to Funded). Neither number means what it appears to mean,
because the real cost has three parts.
1. The subscription clock
A $49/mo eval is $49 per month you take. Pass in three weeks, pay $49.
Take four months — entirely normal for a 50% consistency-rule account —
and you've paid $196 before earning a dollar.
2. The activation fee (the quiet one)
Passing isn't funding. Many firms charge once more to activate the funded
account:
| Firm | Activation on a 50K |
|---|---|
| Topstep (Standard) | $149 |
| Alpha Futures (Premium) | $149 |
| Take Profit Trader | $130 |
| Funded Futures Network | $120 |
| Apex | $79–$99 by variant |
| Elite Trader Funding | $87 |
| MyFundedFutures, Tradeify, Lucid | $0 |
The interesting math: Topstep sells the same 50K Combine two ways — **$49/mo
- $149 activation**, or $85/mo with no activation. If you expect to pass
inside four months, the $85 no-activation variant is the cheaper total.
Almost nobody runs that arithmetic at checkout.
3. Resets
Blow the account mid-month and want to continue? That's a reset fee — or on
subscription plans, sometimes just your next monthly renewal. One reset on a
one-time-fee plan can cost more than a month of a subscription plan.
The comparison that matters
Don't compare sticker prices. Compare your expected total: (months ×
subscription) + activation + (expected resets × reset fee). A "$165 once"
plan with no activation (Tradeify Select) beats a "$49/mo" plan the moment
your timeline stretches past ~a quarter with activation included.
Every fee in this post is a column in the table —
activation fees have their own filter, and one-time-fee plans are one
search away: "one time fee evals".
